UWA looks to snap a two-game, conference losing skid as it heads to Carrollton, Ga. for the pivotal GSC East Division affair. Lacey Griffin came off the bench to pace the Tigers offensively with 13 points in the loss to Valdosta State on Thursday evening. It marked the second straight game in double figures for the Westville, Fla.-junior and her second double digit effort in conference play. Griffin shot 56-percent from the field, including 50-percent from behind the arc. Dakota Powell pulled down a team best five rebounds in the setback, her second outing as the team leader this season. Reigning GSC East Division Player of the Week Latashia Greer posted eight points against the Lady Blazers.
The Tigers seek a season sweep of UWG as the Red and White garnered a 50-49 win over the Wolves on Jan. 23. The win was the first victory in GSC play for the Tigers. UWA outscored the Wolves 31-23 in the second half to earn the win. Greer paced the Red and White in the scoring column and on the glass as she tallied her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
UWG snapped a three-game losing streak with a 57-56 win over West Florida on Feb. 14 as Charlease Williams drained the game-winning bucket with four seconds to play. Williams and Tearra Henderson combined to lead the Red and Blue in scoring as Williams finished with nine points and Henderson posted 11 points on the board.
The Tigers gave the fifth-ranked Blazers all they wanted before falling 85-75 in Pruitt Hall. UWA held a 38-32 halftime lead, but could not withstand a strong VSU second half scoring surge. Senior Jason Swanson led all scorers with 24 points and a team-best five rebounds. Sophomore Alquan Mendenhall pitched in 15 points on five three three-pointers. Brandon Hampton added 12 points off the bench. UWA will look to even the season series with UWG for the fourth-straight season as the Wolves pulled off a 70-67 win at Pruitt Hall.
UWG (12-11, 3-4 GSC) has been idle since a 76-74 setback to West Florida last Sunday in Pensacola, Fla. John Pringle leads a trio of double-digit scorers with a 13.7 point production.
Following the final regular season road trip, UWA will close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 27 against UAH on Senior Day. Tip off has been pushed back to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
