LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – Both University of West Alabama basketball teams will put the finishing touches on the 2009-10 regular season as UWA hosts Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Feb. 27. Tip off at Pruitt Hall is set for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Both games will be available via live stats and a live video stream at www.uwaathletics.com. UWA will honor its lone senior on the women's club, Jenni Thomley before tip off. UWA will pay tribute to the six seniors on the men's squad prior to the contest. Seniors Chris Davis, Lucas Hall, Brandon Hampton, Brian Murphy, Richard Sirju and Jason Swanson will be playing on the hardwood at Pruitt Hall for the final time.

There is plenty at stake left on the final day of the regular season. The UWA women, who clinched a Gulf South Conference Tournament berth last Saturday, needs a win over the Lady Chargers to earn the No. 3 seed from the East Division. The Tiger men staved off GSC Tournament elimination with a 20-point win over UWG a week ago. UWA needs a win over the late-season surging Chargers and a loss by UWG at Valdosta State to secure its second-straight trip to Southaven, Miss. It marks the third-straight season in which the Tigers were in post season contention on the final day of the regular season. Should both UWA and UWG suffer setbacks, both squads would be tied for the final spot in the field and the Wolves would get the nod. In the tie-breaker scenarios, UWG posted a 4-3 record vs. the GSC West, while the Red and White went 3-4.

The UWA women (8-18, 4-5 GSC) look to complete the season sweep of UAH and garner their second straight GSC win. The Tigers knocked off West Georgia, 52-49, to clinch their fifth consecutive trip to the GSC Tournament and seventh in nine seasons under UWA Head Coach Amanda Marks. The Red and White defeated the Lady Chargers, 79-71, in Huntsville on Jan. 30.

Latashia Greer continues to pace the Red and White in the scoring and rebound columns. The Dadeville, Ala.-junior is averaging 17.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing. In the last seven contests, Keiara Middleton has averaged 10 points per contest followed by 9.2 points from Lacey Griffin. During the stretch, Jenni Thomley has pulled down 6.6 boards, one short of tying for the team lead with Greer at 7.6 rebounds.

UAH (4-18, 1-7 GSC) enters the regular season finale having snapped a 10 game losing streak with a 59-56 win over West Georgia on Monday evening. The victory was the first in conference play for the Lady Chargers. Candace Lee paces the Blue and White offensively with 11 points per game followed by Marissa Carter and Monica Boatwright scoring 10.1 each respectively.

The Tigers (13-13, 3-6 GSC) are paced by Swanson in the scoring column with 16.2 points per game. The reigning GSC East Player of the Week is also pulling down 10.2 rebounds per contest. Last week, the Troy, Ala.-native averaged 27.5 points in the games against VSU and UWG. Swanson recoded his 14th double-double of the season against the Wolves after pouring in 31 points and 14 boards. He enters Saturday's tilt with 24 career double-doubles. UWA continues to be one of the top three-point shooting teams in the GSC and are averaging 8.3 treys per game.

UWA looks to avenge a 66-56 decision to the Blue and White in Huntsville, Ala. The last Tiger win in the series came during the 2005-06 campaign. UAH strolls into Livingston having won its last six games since turning back the Tigers on Jan. 30. In their last outing on Thursday, the Chargers topped North Alabama, 78-71.

The 2010 edition of the GSC Tournament will get underway on Thursday, March 4 at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Miss.
