LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football team has announced the signing of 25 student-athletes for the 2010 football season on Wednesday afternoon. The list includes 16 transfers and nine high school seniors from across the southeast region.

“We are excited about our recruiting class and the way we have finished that up today,” UWA Head Coach Bobby Wallace said. “We have been pleased with the players who have been here this semester and hope these guys we have brought in are just as good as the ones who have been here.”

UWA concluded the 2009 season with a 59-41 loss at Carson Newman. The Red and White made its first appearance in the NCAA Division II Playoffs in 34 years. During the season, the Tigers gathered an 8-5 record, the most wins since 1975, eight All-GSC honors, wins over then nationally ranked Delta State and then ranked No. 1 North Alabama along with a NCAA First Round Playoff victory at Albany State. UWA posted a 5-1 record at Tiger Stadium, the best since 1985, and tallied the most wins over GSC opponents since 1981 with six.

West Alabama opens the season on Saturday, August 28, as the Tigers face Shorter College at Demopolis (Ala.) High School.
