Tigers Fall 69-49 at No. 7 UAH

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – A strong shooting night from the outside hands the West Alabama men's basketball team its second Gulf South Conference loss of the season as UWA falls 69-49 at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. UAH – which is ranked seventh nationally - improves to 16-2 on the season as the Tigers fall to 6-10 and 1-2 in conference action.

The Chargers – who were led by Zane Campbell's 15 points - connected on 42 percent of their shots from 3-point land to remain perfect in conference play. Campbell was 3 for 5 on the night from behind the arc along with Elliot Jones, who finished nine points on the evening.

Richard Dixon and Alquan Mendenhall paced the Red and White in scoring with 14 and 11 points respectively. Korielle Beavers pulled down a team-best eight rebounds in the effort.

After a tight contest over the first four minutes, UAH used a 12-2 run to take its first double digit lead of the game at 17-5 with 11:21 left in the opening half. The Chargers expanded their lead to as much as 20 points on a couple occasions during the first half - the last coming at the 2:27 mark on a jumper by Magette. The Tigers scored the final five points of the half – narrowing the gap to 33-18 at the intermission.

The Red and White opened the second stanza with a 12-6 run to pull within 39-30 - the first time the deficit was under double digits since the 7-minute mark of the first half. A quartet of Tigers help lead the surge guided by four points from Trevell Coleman. Mendenhall and Ibrahim Appiah chimed in three points each and Dixon supplied two points during the stretch.

The Chargers quickly answered with a 14-5 burst to push the deficit back to 18 points before taking their largest lead at 21 points with just under 2-minutes to play in the contest on a layup by Josh Magette.

The Tigers finished the night shooting 33 percent from the field while the Chargers connected on 44 percent of their shots from the floor. UWA out-rebounded the Blue and White 36-33 in the setback.

West Alabama travels to Carrollton, Ga. for its second straight, GSC, road game of the campaign. Tip-off between West Georgia and UWA is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 104.9 FM and www.uwaathletics.com.
