LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Behind the running of
Matt Willis and six Harding turnovers, the University of West Alabama extended its win streak to four games with a 31-17 win inside Tiger Stadium on Saturday evening. The victory improved the Tigers to 4-1 on the season while HU falls to 2-3.
Willis concluded the night with 194 yards on the ground – second most in school history in a single game behind Marcus Ross' 226 against Arkansas Tech in 2004. The rushing total also stands as the most by any back in the Gulf South Conference this season – surpassing the previous mark of 146 set Valdosta State's David Bailey on Sept. 24.
As a team, the Tigers pounded out 390 yards of total offense with 280 coming on the ground. The rushing total bested the Bisons ground attack. HU entered the night as the nation's top rushing team averaging 400-plus yards on the ground.
HU opened the contest with the points on the night. After blocking
Ryne Smith's 24 yard field goal attempt on the Tigers' first drive, HU drove 82 yards on 15 plays to take a 7-0 lead. Chaz Rogers capped the scoring drive with a one yard rush – leaving just over 2 minutes on the clock in the opening quarter.

Kyle Caldwell found
Josh Senkbeil from six yards out to end the 4-play, 21 yard drive. Caldwell – who made his first career start for the Tigers - finished the night with 110 yards through the air on 13 of 22 passes and also rushed 47 yards.
UWA held the narrow three-point advantage heading into the locker room.
A pair of fumbles on back-to-back possessions set up the Red and White's two scores in the third quarter.
UWA extended its lead on its first drive of the quarter as UWA marched 45 yards on seven plays to push the margin out to 17-7. Caldwell threw his second TD pass of the contest to
Gerald Worsham to cap the drive. Willis later added his first score midway through the third stanza on a seven yard run ending a 28 yard.
Deon Lacey and
Brandon Walker led the Tigers defensive efforts as the duo combined for 27 tackles with six solo stops each. Lacey led the team with 14 tackles with Walker one short of his teammate with 13. Lacey also forced a pair of fumbles in the contest and recovered one.
After the Black and Gold pulled to within 24-10 on a 50 yard field goal by Eddy Carmona early in the final quarter, the Tigers added their final score with 6:30 remaining in the contest as Caldwell found Worsham for the second time on the night – this time from 11 yards out - lengthen the lead to 31-10. Worsham finished night with 74 yards on nine receptions.
HU's final score of the evening came with 20 seconds left as Rogers added his second score of the evening from one yard out.
