LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama football team announced two promotions within its program, naming John Hilbert the team's new wide receivers coach and Landon Guidry the assistant defensive backs coach.

Both Hilbert and Guidry served as graduate assistants for the Tigers this past season before earning full-time positions this offseason.

Hilbert, a native of Brookhaven, Mississippi, played for UWA in 2022 and 2023 before transitioning into coaching. As a wide receiver, he recorded 51 receptions for 711 yards and four touchdowns across two seasons. He broke out in his first year with the program in 2022, totaling 37 catches for 541 yards and three touchdowns.

During his time as a graduate assistant, Hilbert helped lead the Tigers to 14 wins over two seasons, including a nine-win campaign in 2024 that resulted in a trip to the NCAA Playoffs. Working with the receivers, he coached Kris Binion, Dearrius Nelson, and TD Parker to All-GSC honors.

Guidry, a native of Spring Hill, Tennessee, also earns a promotion after gaining collegiate experience as both a player and coach.

He began his collegiate career at Mississippi State, where he was ranked as the No. 28 prospect in the state of Tennessee coming out of high school. Guidry played safety for the Bulldogs, appearing in 26 games over four seasons. He later transferred to Samford to finish his playing career.

Guidry joined West Alabama's staff as a graduate assistant ahead of the 2024 season and played a key role in the Tigers' success. He now steps into a full-time role as the program's assistant defensive backs coach.

Both Hilbert and Guidry are currently on campus and coaching the Tigers through spring practice.
