Tiger Volleyball Hosts West Florida in Breast Cancer Awareness Match

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team (19-9, 7-4 GSC) battles with Gulf South Conference front-runner West Florida (19-8, 10-0 GSC) Friday night in the Tigers' Breast Cancer Awareness match.

The contest will highlight the ever-increasing struggle of breast cancer across the country. Pink t-shirts, homemade cookies, and bracelets will be on sell with all proceeds going to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Fans are also encouraged to wear pink to show support.

“Every October we have a Breast Cancer Awareness match, and it is something that I look forward to every year,” said head coach Tabitha Turner. “I am a big supporter of this cause because breast cancer affects so many lives, and I feel like this is a way for our team to give back and help in finding a cure.”

UWA goes against one of the elite teams in the GSC with West Florida sitting at 10-0 in conference. The Argos will be looking to clinch a No. 1 seed Friday night against a Tiger team that has also been impressive in conference play.

“Going against a big opponent always puts you to the test. We have overcome some obstacles here late in the season and I am looking forward to seeing our team go against one of the top contenders in the league,” added Turner.

The Tigers enter Friday's match following a tough 3-1 setback to North Alabama on Tuesday night. UWA is led by Angela Sanders who has a team-high 317 kills. Meanwhile, fellow senior Casey Byrnes leads the squad defensively with 387 digs.

Following Friday's contest, the Red and White entertain New Orleans on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall.
