LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After losing the first set, the University of West Alabama volleyball team (21-10, 9-5 GSC) rebounded for a come-from-behind 3-2 win against Christian Brothers (23-9, 9-4 GSC) Friday to send the team's five seniors off in a match they will not soon forget.
 
UWA and Christian Brothers alternated sets with the Bucs claiming a first and third set victory, and the Tigers prevailing in the second and fourth to send it to the decisive game. In that winner-take-all fifth set, UWA fell behind 1-0 – the only time the Tigers would trail the remainder of the way as head coach Tabitha Turner's team took a 15-11 victory and clinched the match.
 
The thrilling fifth game was set up by an exciting first four, beginning in the first set of the night. UWA came out strong from the start, building a 23-20 lead in the all-important opening frame. The Bucs were relentless, however, winning five-straight to take a 25-23 first set victory.
 
UWA then rebounded in the second, holding a lead throughout for a 25-17 triumph. From there, the teams reversed roles with CBU taking a 25-18 victory in the third game to put the Bucs up 2-1 and setting up a do-or-die situation for the Tigers in the fourth.
 
The Red and White responded like they have all season long with a big victory in the fourth after trailing by as many as three points in the 25-21 win, setting up the thrilling fifth game and a 3-2 West Alabama victory.
 
UWA now moves to 4-0 in five-set matches this season, including a 2-0 mark at home. With the win, the Tigers picked up victory No. 21 on the season and their ninth in the Gulf South Conference.
 
As the regular season came to a close Friday evening, West Alabama now sets its sights on the GSC Tournament next weekend in Pensacola, Fla.
