UWA Men’s Hoops Falls to Columbus State, 78-66

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of West Alabama men's basketball team's effort to avenge an earlier loss to Columbus State fell short Saturday, as the Tigers fell to CSU, 78-66.

With the loss, UWA has now dropped seven-straight since the squad's season-opening win against Lynn College. Head Coach Mike Newell's team is now 1-7 on the year, while Columbus State moves to 4-3.

The first half was reminiscent of the previous game between these two, as each team battled in a back-and-forth contest. Things looked good in the early going as the Tigers jumped out to a 12-3 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half. From there, CSU went on a 15-4 run to knot the game at 18 all and eventually took a slim 28-27 advantage into the half.

West Alabama struggled to get much going in the final 20 minutes of play, as the Cougars took control of the game, outscoring the Tigers 10-3 in the first five minutes of the second half. UWA failed to overcome the early struggles and eventually took the 78-66 loss.

The Tigers had three players score in double digits, led by Jared Woolfolk's 21. Meanwhile, Steve Peterson put in 27 points and 11 rebounds to guide the Cougars.

West Alabama now returns home to face Martin-Methodist Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. at Pruitt Hall.
