LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team begins a three games in six days stretch as UWA (3-5) travels to Young Harris College on Friday, Sept. 30. Kickoff at YHC is set for 3 p.m. The Tigers then return for two games at Tiger Stadium beginning with the Kohl's American Cup on Sunday, Oct. 2 against LaGrange College at 2 p.m.
Gates at Tiger Stadium will open at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday for the Kohl's American Cup. Everyone attending will receive goodie bags for participation and will have the opportunity to take part and win gift cards in activities such as shooting accuracy test, agility timed test and keep up competition.
The Tigers wrap up the three-game span with a 7 p.m. kickoff against Alabama State on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
UWA enters the non-conference stretch looking to snap a two-game skid – both coming in conference setbacks to UAH and West Florida.
A pair of freshmen lead the Tigers offensively as
Nicki Gears and
Nicola Gibson are tied for the team lead in goals with three each. Gibson scored the first goal in program history in the season opening win over Judson College. The London native also posted the game clincher in the 2-1 victory over JC. Gears goals also came in historic significance to the program as she tallied the team's first hat trick in a 5-0 triumph over Tennessee Temple. Gears along with
Vicky Petrova – who paces the team in assists with five –lead the Tigers in points with seven. Goalkeeper
Jess Martin has tallied 38 saves in her first season for the Red and White. The freshman sports a .628 save percentage while posting a pair of shutouts for the Tigers.
YHC has tallied a 6-2 record this season and is led by Haley Holderfield's seven goals this season. Holderfield also paces the Mountain Lions in points with 27 – one more than Lauren Martin's 26. Kelsey Cunningham leads YHC in goal with 41 saves and three shutouts.
Shelby Stanfield leads LaGrange with four goals this season as the Panthers have posted a 1-6-1 record. Chelsea Totaro has tallied a 1-4-1 record in goal for LC with 31 saves.
Kyla Neale guides Alabama State – who is 1-9 on the campaign - offensively with two goals. Kylee Hathaway holds a 1-7 record in goal for the Hornets with a shutout and 55 saves on the season.
