VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State scored the first four goals of the match Friday evening, as the Blazers ran past the University of West Alabama women's soccer team, 4-1, at the VSU Soccer Complex.
With the loss, UWA has now lost three-straight on the year and moves to 6-8-3 overall and 4-3-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State improves to 13-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in league play.
The Blazers exploded in the first half, netting four goals in the first 20 minutes of action with two of those scores coming in the first 10 minutes.
VSU's scoring surge started with Rebecca Miller, who laced in her sixth score of the season at the 5:54 mark. Just three minutes later, Blazer Sydney Smith scored unassisted off a shot in the box that landed just over the head of Tiger goalkeeper
Jess Martin.
Up 2-0, Valdosta State then saw a score from Karly Lentz at 11:33, which was her first of the year. After an own goal put the score at 4-0 in favor of the Blazers, Tiger
Nicola Gibson cooled down VSU's rally with a shot at 37 minutes. It was not enough, however, as VSU held on for the 4-1 win.
West Alabama now faces West Georgia Sunday at Noon to close out the 2012 season.
