Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
Sandy Underwood scored 25 points to lead the University of West Alabama men's basketball team to an 84-67 college basketball win over Selma University Wednesday night at Pruitt Hall Gym.
The win improves West Alabama to 1-1, while Selma dropped to 3-1.
“We did some good things, but we played in spurts,” UWA head coach Mike Newell said. “Sometimes we get in trouble when we try to go too fast, but I was pleased that when they made their run we kept our composure.”
The Tigers led 39-25 at the half, but the Bulldogs rallied back to cut the lead to 56-53 with just over 10 minutes left to play. A 13-2 run over the next 3:33 helped put the game away.
Steven Samuels scored 17 points for UWA, followed by
Jack Hill with 15 and
Desmond Raymond with 13. Hill collected 10 rebounds to notch his second double-double in as many games. Samuels picked up seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
Jamie Washington scored 13 points to pace Selma despite a 3-for-13 shooting night from the floor. Adrian Nelson chipped in 12, Kenneth Thomas 11 and Christopher Maye 10. Washington and Nelson had six rebounds each for the Bulldogs.
The Tigers travel to Niagara, N.Y. to take on Bucknell in the last game of the 2K Sports Classic to Benefit Wounded Warriors on Sunday before returning to Pruitt Hall to host Tennessee Wesleyan on Nov. 21.
