UWA Men Fall to West Florida, 81-68

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – In what was a chaotic 40 minutes of basketball, the University of West Alabama men's basketball team fell to West Florida Sunday afternoon, 81-68, at Pruitt Hall.

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 8-18, 5-8 in the Gulf South Conference. Meanwhile, West Florida improves to 17-10, 7-6 in the GSC.

In a game that featured 34 personal foul calls, West Alabama and UWF played a nip-and-tuck first half of basketball. The Tigers quickly grabbed the early lead, making the first two baskets of the game. From there, UWA traded jabs with West Florida as the Argos  took their first lead with an 8-7 advantage at the 15-minute mark.

That back-and-forth pace continued until halftime when West Florida grabbed a tight 33-32 advantage. The one-point score was indicative of a game that was tied seven times and changed hands 13 times.

West Florida captured the late momentum in the second half, gradually building a sizable lead over the Tigers. UWA did manage to cut the score to 52-48 with 12:24 to go, but that would be as close as it would get the rest of the way as UWF took a commanding 81-68 win over West Alabama.

Playing in his final game at Pruitt Hall, senior guard Alquan Mendenhall led his team with 18 points on the night, while three other players scored in double figures for UWA. Argos' forward Jamar Moore led all scorers with 28 points on the evening.

West Alabama now concludes regular season play with a trip to Carrollton, Ga., this Saturday. UWA tips off against the Wolves at 3 p.m.
