Tigers Unable to Overcome Montevallo’s First-Half Goal

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – A goal by Montevallo's Pierre Omanga just over a minute into Wednesday evening's match sealed the victory for the Falcons in a 1-0 triumph over the University of West Alabama men's soccer team.

It was a back-and-forth contest for the entirety of the ninety minutes played on Wednesday, with each defense holding strong. The Tigers recorded just nine shots on the night, while Montevallo registered just 12.

After Omenga's goal at the onset of the match, UWA had chances down the stretch but could not convert late in the second period. Tiger sophomore John Imwalle had his team's lone shot on goal off a header that fell just short.

Filling in for usual starter Brendan Ledgeway, Montevallo goalkeeper Jonathon Oprandy picked up his first win of the season, while UWA's Jack Moore played stellar in his first loss on the year.

Statistically, the Tigers struggled on the offensive end but had two players with multiple shots in Thibault Charmey and Evan Beutler. Meanwhile, the Falcons had nine players take at least one shot on the night with Omanga leading the way with three.

UWA continues its four-game home stand to start the season when the squad entertains Talladega Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. That match follows the women's contest against Shorter at 5 p.m.
