Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama volleyball posted a .261 attack percentage while holding North Alabama to .146 to sweep the Lions in three sets in Gulf South Conference action on Sunday.
The Tigers only trailed the Lions once in the third set as they secured 25-23, 25-21 and 25-22 set victories. UWA posted its best attack percentage in the third set with .273 and held UNA to .000.
It is the second straight three set sweep for West Alabama, who improves to 12-15 on the season with two matches remaining; 5-11 in the GSC. North Alabama drops to 6-21 overall; 4-11 in conference.
"This has been a very challenging weekend for the girls, both on and off the court," said UWA head volleyball coach
Jordan Lay.
"They have come through with flying colors and have exceeded expectations. These last two games were very crucial for us as far conference standings and momentum heading into the conference tournament goes. We are now feeling really good heading into this week, especially with senior night coming up this Friday."
Carly Wehling led her team through four multiple point runs from the service position, including a nine point run to start the second set. She ended the match with seven total service aces and accounted for 11.5 UWA points.
Six different Tigers tallied multiple kills with
Elizabeth Culhane leading with nine, accounting for 12 points.
Cynthia Smith led the Tiger defense with 10 digs.
Morgan Gorey and Hope Rayburn led the Lion offense. Gorey totaled 14 kills and Rayburn ended with 28 assists.
UWA will return to its home court on Tuesday to take on GSC foe West Georgia. The match is set for 6 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
