LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Former University of West Alabama linebacker and 2011 Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Year Deon Lacey has signed a contract with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
Lacey (6-2, 229) had 267 tackles, nine quarterback sacks, six forced fumbles and five interceptions over his career at UWA that ran from 2009-12. He recorded 97 tackles, four quarterback sacks, two interceptions, four broken up passes and a fumble recovery the year he was named by GSC coaches as the defensive player of the year.
From Brighton, Ala., Lacey signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys following his senior season, but was among the last players released prior to the 2013 season.
