UWA Men's Soccer Honors Seniors in Friday's Pivotal GSC Match

LIVINGSTON, Ala. –The 2015 men's soccer senior class will look to uphold the University of West Alabama's place at the top of the Gulf South Conference standings as it takes on Spring Hill College in league play for Senior Night at Tiger Stadium Friday.

A victory over the Badgers will boost UWA over a .500 overall win percentage for the first time this season as it currently sits 5-5-2. The Tigers have overcome a grueling non-conference schedule, which began the season, to stand 4-1-1 in the GSC, one spot behind the leader Alabama Huntsville at 5-1.

Seven UWA senior student-athletes will be honored prior to Friday's match for their success on the pitch, which includes the program's first GSC Tournament Championship claimed last season in the program's third year of existence.

With four regular season games left, Alex Brown, Brian Meadows, Christian Adkins, Zach Traweek, William Artiga, Dillon Ladner and Kieran Pettigrew are all wrapping up storied careers at UWA.

In the squad's championship run a year ago, midfielders Meadows, Artiga and Pettigrew led an attack that led the conference in scoring with 44 total goals (2.4 per match).  A native of Oxnard, Calif., Meadows has totaled a .500 shot on-goal percentage with one goal and one assist, giving him eight career goals and nine career assists.

Pettigrew, a native of Greenoch, Scotland, has combined for a .500 shots on-goal percentage through three seasons, while Houston, Texas native Artiga owns two goals in his career.

This season, Brown, Adkins, Traweek and Ladner lead a defense that has allowed only 1.2 goals per match through 12 games; second in the league.

Brown has even proved a vital role to the Tiger's offense, leading the team with 12 goals and two game winners. The Essex, England native is among the Top 10 individuals in the GSC in points, points-per-game, goals, goals-per-game and game-winning goals. This year alone he is two goals away from matching his total goal count through his first three season combined, owning 14 total in 66 matches.

With the strong support from Birmingham, Ala. native Adkins, Traweek, a Pleasant Grove, Ala. native, and Ladner, of Hurley, Miss., the defense has limited opponents to 15 goals through 1,170 minutes of action, which includes five overtime periods. Traweek holds one career goal, while Adkins has one goal and nine assists in his career.

West Alabama enters Friday's match with SHC, coming off of two overtime matches in conference play last week. The Tigers took the No. 15 team in the nation, Lee University, into extra minutes to end in a 1-1 draw last Friday. The match marked the fourth nationally ranked team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

UWA will look to respond to receiving its first conference loss from Shorter University in a 3-2 overtime loss last Sunday. The Tigers have not lost in a home GSC match since Sept. 28, 2014, winning the last six.

The match with Spring Hill will kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
