INDIANAPOLIS – West Alabama men's basketball improved two places to sixth in the second week of the NCAA Division II South Region rankings.

The Tigers, who are currently riding their second six-game win streak this season, have already amassed the most single season wins since the 1981-82 season with a 20-9 overall record. With only one regular season game left, UWA is tied for first place with Alabama Huntsville in the Gulf South Conference standings at 15-6 in the league.

UAH improved one place to third in the region, while the No. 1 team in the nation, Florida Southern, leads south region rankings with an overall record of 24-1. Sunshine State Conference school Barry maintained the second spot in the region, ranked fourth in the nation. The Tigers next GSC opponent, West Georgia, ranks in at fourth, followed by Lynn, also of the SSC.

Fellow GSC school Shorter jumped from 10^th to seventh and Union fell from fifth to eighth. Christian Brothers and Tampa round out the list in ninth and 10^th place respectively.

The NCAA South Region rankings are used at the end of the regular season to determine seeding in the national tournament.

The top eight in the regional rankings make the NCAA tournament, though it is possible for less to qualify if an automatic berth is won by a team outside of the top eight. The automatic berths are granted to the champions of the three conference tournaments in the South Region – the GSC, the SSC, and the SIAC.

West Alabama will look to make program history against West Georgia on Thursday. A win will give the Tigers the programs best seven consecutive GSC wins as well as the most single season wins in the school's history; a record that has stood for 44 years. Tipoff against the Wolves is slated for 6:30 p.m. (C.S.T.) in Carrollton, Ga. The game can be heard on ESPN 104.9 and live stats will be available as well.
