LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Alexis Meeks has been named head volleyball coach at the University of West Alabama, according to an announcement today by Director of Athletics Stan Williamson.

Meeks replaces Jordan Lay, who recently accepted an associate head coach position at Wofford College. Meeks served as Lay's assistant during the 2015 season.

"With the departure of Jordan Lay to an NCAA Division I program, we are fortunate to have a solid young assistant coach on our staff to step right in," Williamson said. "Alexis has done an outstanding job as UWA's assistant volleyball coach over the last year.

"She has impressed our staff with her volleyball knowledge and overall maturity," Williamson said. "We believe Coach Meeks will be the type of head volleyball coach who will elevate the UWA volleyball program to new heights of success both on and off the court."

Although this is her first assignment as a collegiate head coach, Meeks has four years of experience as head coach at the club level, leading the Sanford Pentagon Volleyball Club as well as Vision Volleyball and Team Indiana club teams.

"I would first like to thank President Ken Tucker, Stan Williamson and the rest of the support staff at UWA for giving me this amazing opportunity," Meeks said. "The University of West Alabama is a special place and I am beyond excited to continue the growth of this program.

"We have an amazing group of talented young ladies who I am excited to lead and grow with," Meeks said. "It's an honor to be the head coach at a university that is so committed to academic and athletic excellence. I couldn't be happier to start this journey."

A former NCAA Division I Summit League Setter of the Year, Meeks came to UWA after serving a year on the volleyball staff at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A native of Leo, Indiana, and graduate of Leo High School, Meeks concluded her playing career at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis in 2013-14, setting the IUPUI career assists record and earning first-team All-Summit League honors in addition to being named conference setter of the year.

With Meeks directing the Jaguar offense, IUPUI earned their first NCAA Tournament appearance and Summit League Tournament crown. Meeks was named the Summit League Tournament MVP as she guided the Jaguars to the Summit League regular season title preceding their tournament championship.

Off the court, she earned Dean's List on her way to a Bachelors Degree of Arts in Communication Studies with a Minor in Business from IUPUI.
