UWA Remains Fifth in NCAA Regional Football Rankings

KANSAS CITY - West Alabama remained fifth in this week' s NCAA Division II Super 2 Region rankings following its 24-3 win at Mississippi College last week. The top seven teams following this weekend's regular season finales will earn a berth in the 2018 NCAA Division II National Playoffs.

UWA improved to 7-3 with its win over the Choctaws. The Tigers have one game left in the regular season, this Saturday at home against West Florida (6-4), who eliminated the Tigers in the third round of the 2017 playoffs. Kickoff is 2 p.m.

The Tigers are one of four Gulf South Conference teams ranked in the regional top 10. The NCAA Playoffs bracket will be announced Sunday at 4 p.m. CST.

Valdosta State leads the region rankings, followed by West Georgia. Lenoir-Rhyne, whose only loss this season is to West Alabama, is third. Bowie State and UWA round out the top five.

Florida Tech is sixth, followed by Albany State, Wingate, Virginia Union and Fayetteville State to complete the top 10.
