Pride, George Earn GSC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team is riding a seven-game unbeaten streak after posting a 2-0 weekend over Spring Hill College and University of West Florida thanks to a strong team effort as well as quality work from TeMia Pride and Lauren George, both of whom earned Gulf South Conference weekly honors.

Pride, a senior from Huntsville, Alabama, was named GSC Player of the Week after scoring three goals and passing an assist during the weekend. The forward scored once and had the assist against SHC and scored twice on UWF. Pride's second goal against the Argonauts tied her atop the UWA Women's Soccer record book with 47 career goals. The number also ties her 10th all-time in conference history in career goals.

Last season's GSC Co-Player of the Year, Pride was named Player of the week on two occasions during the 2018 season.

George, a freshman from London, England, was named GSC Freshman of the Week coming off a stellar weekend with three goals and three assists. The defender posted two goals and two assists against the Badgers and had a goal and the game winning assist against the West Florida. Since the start of UWA's current unbeaten streak, George has registered all of her four goals and six assists on the year.

This is George's first GSC Freshman of the Week honor and the first Tiger to receive the honor since Kaylah Butterworth in the third week of the 2018 season.

These awards are the first weekly honors of the 2019 season for the Tigers.

West Alabama hosts two more regular season home games starting Friday night against the Christian Brothers Lady Bucs. Starting at 5 p.m., the match will serve as senior night for five members of the team.
