UWA Hoops Available Free Via Live Streaming

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – With the Gulf South Conference adopting a "mirrored" schedule for the 2020-21 basketball season to help alleviate problems caused by the COVID Pandemic, live video and audio streaming via the Internet will fill the gap for West Alabama basketball fans in lieu of live local radio broadcasts.

A "mirrored" schedule means that the UWA men's and women's teams will be playing the same teams at the same time on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the season, only at different locations. For example, when the UWA women play Alabama Huntsville at home, the men will be playing at UAH and vice versa.

The UWA men's and women's teams will be playing at the same time at different venues in 18 of 20 games. The lone exception is opening weekend against Delta State due to Pruitt Gym being set up for graduation on Friday night prior to Saturday commencement ceremonies.

"Due to the men's and women's games being played simultaneously at different locations for the entire season, providing live concurrent radio broadcasts presents a challenge with only one radio partner," UWA Director of Athletics Bobby Wallace said. "Instead, we are happy to be able to provide a video/audio stream free of charge for all UWA home games."

Games at Delta State are also the only ones where there will be a charge for accessing the live feed on the road. The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen charge $8 per game to view games played at Walter Sillers Coliseum in Cleveland, Mississippi.

Men's coach Nick Woodruff will make his head coaching debut Friday at DSU. Tipoff is 6:30 p.m. Women's coach Rusty Cram tips off his seventh season Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Pruitt Hall Gym on the UWA campus, also against Delta State.

The link for all UWA home games, both women and men, is https://portal.stretchinternet.com/uwa/. The links to video/audio streams when the Tigers are on the road will be available in the "Schedule" tab for both men's and women's basketball on uwaathletics.com. Aubrey Elmore will handle play-by-play duties.

There will be no admission charge for limited first-come first served seating at West Alabama home games, but the wearing of masks and social distancing is required. Doors will open one hour before tipoff and fans allowed in the gym will sit only in the bleachers on the opposite side of the court from the team benches.

Once the limited capacity is reached, spectators will no longer be allowed in Pruitt Gym. Highly visible signage will be at entrances to Pruitt Gym to guide fans, players and game operations personnel to designated entrances.
