Tigers Prep for Falcon Classic

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – For the third consecutive week, the University of West Alabama Track and Field team is preparing for competition as the squad is set to head to the Montevallo Falcon Classic hosted by the University of Montevallo at the Track and Field/Lacrosse Stadium.
 
The two-day event starts Friday, March 19 at 12 p.m. with the hammer throw and pole vault events with the first track event coming at 5 p.m. as the women's 10,000-meter starts.
 
On March 20, the women's and men's 5,000-meter starts the morning at 9:30 a.m. and field events commence at 10 a.m. as shot-put starts. The 4x400 for both women and men are the scheduled last events of the invitational tournament.
 
West Alabama enters the Falcon Classic after a solid performance at the 2021 Jag Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama down in Mobile, Alabama.
 
The team of Zavannah Brown, Savannah Williams, Jailah Swain and Alexis Sturdivant combined to earn second place in the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:59.87 and just slightly less than a second behind the winning team from Southeast Missouri who won in 3:58.04.
 
Sturdivant turned in the best solo performance for the women's team with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meters with a time of 58.68 seconds.
