Mobile Invitational Canceled for UWA Track

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Due to inclement weather on the Alabama Gulf Coast, the University of West Alabama track team will have an unexpected weekend off as the 2021 Mobile Invitational has been called off.

With the canceled weekend, the Tigers will look toward April 29 through May 1 as the Gulf South Conference Outdoor Championships are scheduled to take place at the University of Montevallo at the Track and Field/Lacrosse Stadium.

It has been a year of recording breaking for the team as five different program records have fallen this season as the Tigers march through schedule. Last week, Jailah Swain clocked a time of 1:04.08 in the 400-meter hurdles at the UAB Spring Invite to break her own record set earlier. Annaya Chelcy captured the top time in the 100 meters (12.09) and 200 meters (24.55) with her efforts at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays.

Meanwhile the team of Nate Sanford, Jonathan Davis, Demetrius Jackson and Kelvin Poe finished the 4x400 meter relay at the Jag Invitational in 3.17.68 to capture the program record in the event.

Zavannah Brown, Savannah Williams, Alexis Sturdivant and Jailah Swain brought home a first-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay in 3:53.18 which also established a new program mark at the Flames Invitational.
