ITA Fall Regionals Recap

LAKELAND, Fla – The University of West Alabama Tennis teams competed in the ITA Fall Regionals in Lakeland, Fla Sept 24th through Sept 26th.

"There was a ton of high quality tennis played this weekend with the event only featuring top players in the region. We played tough opponents with multiple matches each day, some players were on the court for over five hours," head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said.

The West Alabama men's team had two doubles teams play. Lucas Hammond and Ilari Vesanen were the number eight overall seed and made the quarterfinals. Nuutti Jokinen and Loic Danze also made the quarterfinals.

In men's singles, Vesanen was able to pick up a win against the number four overall seed Nicolas Bacella from Saint Leo. Jokinen advanced to the round of 16 and was beat out by the number three overall seed Alejandro Ortega from Barry University.

In women's doubles, Haina Franco and Katia de la Garza were the number three seed and made it to the semifinals.

In women's singles, Franco and de la Garza were the number four and six overall seeds. Both players made the quarterfinals of the bracket. Valeria Arevalo picked up a win against the number 11 overall seed Danialle Farfan from Barry University. Arevalo made the consolation finals and due to certain circumstances the match was not played.
