Cruz and Laidler Named D2CCA All-South Region Second Team

JACKSON, Tenn. - West Alabama women's soccer midfielder Dana Cruz and defender Paige Laidler were named to the 2022 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-South Region Second Team. The teams were voted on by the sports information directors in the south region. 

"I am extremely proud of Dana and Paige," head coach Graeme Orr said. "To be recognized in our elite south region is outstanding. Both players reached remarkable levels of consistency this fall and deserve this individual accolade."

"Hopefully it will give them and the rest of the squad the appetite to achieve more awards next year," Orr added. 

Cruz led the Tigers with seven goals and six assists for 20 points, while starting in all 18 games. The sophomore midfielder logged 1,466 minutes. Cruz ranked seventh in the GSC in points, and 11th in goals and assists. Cruz was also named 2022 Second Team All-GSC. 

Laidler ended the season with five goals this season and passed one assist for 11 points, while anchoring the back line for the Tigers. She logged 1,548 minutes. The senior defender was also named to the 2022 Second Team All-GSC.
