Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga. – Kortrijk Miles hits a game-winning jumper to push the Tigers past Valdosta, 59-57. The West Alabama men's basketball team defeated the Blazers for the second time in two months to improve to 18-4 on the season and 11-3 in conference play.
Shardarrion Allen caught fire at the start of the game to score 18 of his 26 points in the first half. The Bolton, Miss. native hit 4 of 6 (66.7%) in three-point range and 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the floor in his most accurate shooting of the season. He also went 6-of-6 at the line and led the team in rebounding with 7.
Miles was the only other Tiger to score in the double digits. The Dallas, Texas native added 12 to the scoreboard with five boards.
It was a hard-fought game from the beginning, with Valdosta scoring the first points on a dunk by Maurice Gordon.
The Tigers answered seconds after. Justin Allison landed a 3-point jumper with an assist from Allen for a score of 3-2 in the opening minute.
For the rest of the competition, it was a back-and-forth battle. UWA got its largest lead of the game, 27-22, with 2:21 left in the first half. The Tigers went on a 7-3 run, which included three-pointers by Te Smith and free throws by Allen and CJ Melton.
Valdosta State (11-10, 7-7 Gulf South Conference) had more success in the second half than in the first. The Blazers pulled away from the Tigers 44-37, giving UWA 12:30 seconds to make up the difference.
West Alabama was successful in its quest defeating Valdosta State, 59-57, on the road.
The Tigers will return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 9, when they travel to Rome, Ga., to take on Shorter University. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT / 7:30 p.m. ET inside Winthrop-King Centre.
