Dunson, Johnigan Named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Announced on Tuesday by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), two volleyball student-athletes from the University of West Alabama were recognized as Academic All-District® recipients. 

Quiara Dunson and Amelia Johnigan were honored with the academic award. 

To qualify, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore athletically and academically with a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Additionally, athletes must compete in 90% of the institution's matches played or must start in at least 66% of matches. 

Dunson played in 100 sets during the 2023 season as the Tigers' top libero, posting 351 digs and adding 14 service aces. In her Tiger career, the Joliet, Ill. native posted 751 digs, averaging 2.58 per set. 

Johnigan totaled 130.5 points with 85 kills, 38 blocks and 24 service aces in 91 sets during the 2023 campaign. The Hoover, Ala. native recorded 323 kills, 143 blocks and 88 aces for 499.0 points. 

From the Gulf South Conference (GSC), 25 selections were named to the All-District® team.
