Former UWA DE Trevonte Carter Signs with Salina Liberty

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Former West Alabama defensive end Trevonte Carter signed a contract with Salina Liberty of the Champions Indoor Football League (CIF). 
 
"I am very blessed to be able to pursue my dreams of playing the game I love," Carter said. "My next chapter starts in Kansas under coach Heron O'Neal for Salina liberty in the CIF Indoor Football League."
 
Carter came to UWA in 2017. He redshirted his first season and had a shortened 2020 season due to COVID-19. Carter finished his senior season in the fall of 2022 and graduated with his bachelor's degree in engineering technology.
 
"I want to thank coach Gilliland for believing in me and allowing me to play collegiate ball and attain my bachelor's degree," Carter said.
 
The Gadsden, Alabama native played in 31 games and made 85 tackles, 63 solo-stops. He had 11.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, three QB hurries, two fumble recoveries, and a pass deflection.
 
"I want to give a huge thanks to coach Sisa, Coach Scott, and coach Pinilla," Carter said. "They believed I could call myself a professional football player and made sure I put the work in all around, on and off the field. I'm forever thankful for those men."
 
The CIF is a professional Indoor American Football minor league created in 2014 out of the merger between the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) and Lone Star Football League (LSFL), plus one team from the Indoor Football League and two expansion teams. 
 
The CIF consists of eight teams; Sioux City Bandits, Omaha Beef, Rapid City Marshals, Gillette Mustangs, Billings Outlaws, Southwest Kansas Storm, Topeka Tropics, and Salina Liberty.
 
The Salina Liberty's first game is against the Topeka Tropics on March 4. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Tony's Pizza Events Center in Moline, Illinois.
