Igbinovia Named GSC Freshman of the Week

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama men's tennis player Wilson Igbinovia was named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the week, based off his performance against Montevallo, Ouachita Baptist, and Southern Arkansas last week.

UWA defeated Montevallo 6-2 in the first GSC match of the season. Igbinovia defeated UM's Paul Sobich 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 at No. 4 singles. Paired with Nutti Jokinen, the duo defeated UM's Phillipe Zehender and Frabricio Sosa 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.

The Tigers beat Ouachita Baptist 4-1 last Friday. Igbinovia defeated OBU's Matias Parzajuk 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Paired with Jokinen at No. 3 doubles, the duo defeated OBU's Matias Parzajuk and Ramon Strassman 6-2.

UWA finished out the week by defeating Southern Arkansas 4-1. Igbinovia defeated SAU's Ole Valkyser 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Still paired with Jokinen at No. 3 doubles, the duo took down SAU's Mathieu Wierniezky and Ole Valkyser 6-4.

Igbinovia and the Tigers return to the court on Saturday to take on Shorter in a GSC match. The first serve is set for 10 a.m. at Vaughan Tennis Complex.
