LIVINGSTON, AL-----UWA head football coach
Brett Gilliland put his Tigers through the first scrimmage of the fall camp Thursday morning, and, for the most part, he liked what he saw.
"We went through 115 plays, including special teams, and that was our goal," said Gilliland. "We identified some areas we need to improve on and we are still working on getting into playing shape.
" I saw several good things in all three phases of the game," added Gilliland, who is going into his 11th season. " We have a lot to build on."
Kason Lincke (Mobile/Miss Gulf Coast CC) threw a 16 yard touchdown pass to
Khris Binion (Tuscaloosa/Hillcrest) and a 13 yard touchdown pass to
Silas Thompson (Piedmont).
Jackson Abbott (Maplesville) added an 18 yard scoring strike to
Tadarius Parker (Pleasant Grove). Those were the only three touchdowns in the scrimmage.
Elijah Guyton (Cullman/Fairview) added field goals of 22, 46 and 38 yards.
Gilliland noted that lineman
Davonta Jackson (Greensboro) and linebacker
Trevon Stanford (Manchester, GA), both returning All-GSC performers, did a lot of good things for the defense.
Offensive notables were center
Ben Newton (Thomasville) and running back
Bry Webb (Dothan). He also praised the punting of
Trey Sullivan (Leroy).
UWA opens the 2024 at home on August 31 with Miles College.
