LIVINGSTON, AL- The West Alabama football team held its final audition Tuesday night in preparation for the 2024 season. The team was greeted, not only by new stadium lights, but also with flashing red lights on big plays.
"It was a good, controlled scrimmage," said head coach Brett Gilliland. "The players enjoyed the many students in attendance and also were happy to see our band here supporting them."
Touchdowns in the scrimmage came on a
Spencer Arceneaux (Mobile/ McGill) 29 yard pass to
Khris Binion (Tuscaloosa/Hillcrest), a seven yard run by
Jalen Henderson (Birmingham/Hoover), a 20 yard run by
Devontae Causey (Silas/Southern Choctaw), and a 16 yard pass to Binion from
Kason Lincke (Mobile/Mobile Christian).
"Lincke and Arceneaux did some good things," added Gilliland. "It was good to see some separation in a lot of positions. It's time to start getting ready for Miles College."
Two different Tiger kickers added long field goals.
Elijah Guyton (Cullman/Fairview) and
Kevin Butchers (Miami/Southridge) each had 49-yard field goals. Guyton also had a 34 yarder.
Gilliland also noted the play of the defensive line and the running backs and was also excited with the entire freshmen class.
UWA opens the 2024 campaign at home on August 31 against Miles College. Kickoff is set for 6 pm in Tiger Stadium.
