LIVINGSTON, Ala. - For the first time in the 2025 season, The University of West Alabama Volleyball team has won a GSC Weekly award as Jana Petkovic was named conference's Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.
Petkovic becomes the first UWA Volleyball player to win a Weekly award since Tyler Fezzey was named Player of the Week on October 5, 2021. The Setter also becomes the first to be named Freshman of the Week for the Tigers since Jessica Akiona took home the honor in 2018.
This past week in matchups against Montevallo, West Florida, and Valdosta State, the setter recorded 72 assists and 30 digs, continuing her standout freshman campaign.Â
16 matches into the season, Petkovic ranks third in the GSC in assists with 547, dishing out 9.12 assists per set which also ranks third in the league. The Setter currently holds the most assists dished out in a match within the conference after a 58-assist performance against Montevallo earlier this year followed by a 56-assist performance against Georgia College and State.
Petkovic and the Tigers will get back to work this weekend as they travel to Tennessee for contests against Union and Christian Brothers on Friday and Saturday.
