LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Football's Chrissean Jones was named the GSC Freshman of the Year by the conference on Wednesday.
Jones, a native of Pensacola, Florida, becomes the first GSC Freshman of the Year recipient in UWA history since Kyle Caldwell in 2011 and the first Defensive Freshman of the Year since Shontral Ford in 2009.
In 2025, Jones played in six games at Corner Back for the Tigers. In a room full of seniors and graduate students, the freshman quickly emerged as one of the top players amongst the Defensive Backs for West Alabama. On the year, Jones recorded 11 tackles, 1.0 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups.Â
Back in September 29, Jones was named the GSC Freshman of the Week after his performance against North Greenville. In that game, the Corner Back was instrumental in halting the Trailblazers' comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, securing a road win for West Alabama.
Jones is expected to return to the Tigers in 2026 and is primed to break his way into the starting lineup.
