LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Women's Basketball team will travel North to CB&S Bank Arena at Flowers Hall (Florence, Ala.) for an exhibition matchup against the University of North Alabama on Saturday evening. This will be the Tigers' second meeting with a Division I opponent this season after their comeback victory over UAB earlier this month. Tipoff from Flowers Hall is set for 6 p.m. CST.
Last week, the Tigers traveled to Mobile, Ala. to compete in the SIAC-GSC Crossover tournament where they claimed victories over Spring Hill College (75-69) and Clark Atlanta (86-69). Leading the charge against Spring Hill was the transfer guard, Bellah Machen. She finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and two steals to help her team put away the Badgers. Machen also concluded the night shooting an efficient 7-13 from the field.
Leading the charge against Clark Atlanta was Kendall LaCoste, who ended her night with a career best from three. LaCoste tallied 26 points, two rebounds, and two steals to secure the victory for the Tigers. She also shot 8-11 from the field with six of those shots being three pointers.
Now, the Tigers enter this exhibition averaging 80.0 ppg as a team, while shooting 50.8 percent from the field.
Meanwhile, North Alabama enters the matchup with a 3-2 record—and unlike West Alabama, this will count as an official game for the Lions. UNA is coming off a tight 82-76 loss to Tennessee State on Nov. 19, where Alexandria Alvarado led the way with 26 points, two steals, and a 10-of-16 performance from the field.
With UNA chasing a bounce-back win and UWA embracing another Division I test, all eyes turn to Flowers Hall as Saturday night sets the stage for a true cat fight in Florence — Lions vs. Tigers with plenty of bite on both sides.
