Tigers Host Columbus State in Home Opener

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Women's Basketball team returns to Pruitt Hall on Tuesday evening for its 2025 home opener, welcoming Columbus State University to Livingston, Ala. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CST.

The Tigers enter the matchup coming off a successful showing at the SIAC-GSC Crossover, earning wins over Spring Hill (75-69) and Clark Atlanta (86-69). Transfer guard Bellah Machen powered UWA in the opener with 16 points, five rebounds, and two steals on an efficient 7-of-13 shooting night. Against Clark Atlanta, junior guard Kendall LaCoste delivered a career performance from beyond the arc, posting 26 points while knocking down six three-pointers to lead the Tigers to their second straight victory.

UWA currently averages 80.0 points per game and is shooting 50.8 percent from the field through its first two contests.

Columbus State comes to Livingston with a 3-1 overall record and momentum of their own after an 84-59 win over GSC opponent Auburn Montgomery. The Cougars were led in that outing by Nakaya Williams, who finished with 16 points and five assists, while Nadea Smith added 11 points to help secure the road victory.

With West Alabama looking to open its home slate on a high note and Columbus State aiming to extend its early-season success, Tuesday night sets the stage for a competitive non-conference matchup inside Pruitt Hall as the Tigers defend their home floor for the first time this year.
