Tigers Continue Home Slate with Monday Matchup Against Hawks

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team continues their home slate on Monday as they welcome the Huntingdon College Hawks to Pruitt Hall for a 6:00 p.m. matchup.

West Alabama (2-1, 0-0 GSC) enters Monday's contest after an 80-63 loss to Georgia Southwestern. As for Huntingdon College (2-2, 0-0 CCS), they come into Monday's play following a 107-89 victory over Welch College.

A tough shooting night resulted into UWA's first loss of the season this past Friday. The Tigers shot 37.5 percent from the floor and 16.7 percent from three, marking their lowest shooting splits of the young season.

Despite an off shooting night against the Hurricanes, West Alabama has a ton of offensive firepower and they're looking to bounce back on Monday against the Hawks. While UWA spreads the ball around, Rasean Frederick has been the Tigers No. 1 scoring option through the first three games. Frederick enters Monday's contest after a 14-point, seven-rebound performance against GSW. His frontcourt partner, Christian Thompson continues to impress as he recorded his second consecutive double-double on Friday and his third consecutive game with double-digit rebounds. Thompson is easily the Tigers best rebounder and rim protector as he's averaging 13.0 rebounds through the first three contests. Jakobe Singleton had an off night against Georgia Southwestern but he's a spark plug off the bench and will give UWA instant scoring on Monday.

In the backcourt, BJ Brown Jr. and Travion McCray run the offense. Brown Jr. is the best playmaker on West Alabama's roster and continues to showcase his ability as a slasher, making him a dynamic offensive player for the Tigers. Off the bench, Caleb Parr is a pure scorer. Pare is one of the best shooters on the roster but can also get to his spots inside the three-point line.

UWA possesses a lot of offensive weapons that Huntingdon College will have to deal with on Monday which could lead to a high scoring ball game.

Huntingdon College, a Division III school in the CCS, has been one of top scoring teams in all of Division III through four contests. The Hawks are currently averaging 87.0 and have scored over 88 or more points in three of their four games. Defensively, Huntingdon College has struggled as they're allowing 84.5 points per game.

The Hawks' best player is Tyler Mallory. Mallory, a junior guard, has received national recognition after his play through the first two weeks of the year. The junior is currently averaging 24.5 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game on 44 | 36 | 84 percent shooting splits. Two weeks ago on November 7, the Hawks took on Division I West Georgia in an exhibition and Mallory proceeded to drop 18 points in 17 minutes on the Wolves. Mallory followed that performance up with a 20-point game against MUW and a 42-point outburst against Millsaps. The junior's scoring prowess transcends across all levels of basketball at the collegiate level, making him a tough cover for the Tigers on Monday.

Tip-off for Monday's contest between the Tigers and the Hawks is set for 6:00 p.m. at Pruitt Hall.
