LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team had three players earn recognition as the Gulf South Conference announced its 2025 All-GSC Teams and Awards on Friday afternoon. Senior midfielder
Selis Demirci was named First-Team All-GSC, while freshman goalkeeper
Yumari Hernandez and senior defender
Emily Djagbare both earned Second-Team All-GSC honors.
Demirci led the Tigers offensively all season, finishing tied for first in the GSC in goals scored (11), first in game-winning goals (6), tied for second in total points (23), fourth in total shots (48), and tied for fourth in shots on goal (22). The senior started all 16 matches, recording at least one point in eight contests and delivering multiple game-winning performances that helped UWA secure a 10-3-3 regular season record.
In her debut collegiate season, Hernandez made an immediate impact as the Tigers' starting goalkeeper, earning Second-Team All-GSC honors after one of the top goalkeeping seasons in the league. The freshman ranked second in the GSC in goals allowed (9), second in shutouts (9), second in minutes played (1,440), third in save percentage (0.877), and fifth in total saves (51). She played every minute of the season for the Tigers, anchoring a defensive unit that recorded 10 shutouts and allowed just 10 goals total in 16 matches.
Djagbare earned Second-Team All-GSC honors as a key part of UWA's back line, starting all 16 games and logging 1,433 minutes of action. The senior defender provided leadership and consistency for one of the conference's stingiest defenses, contributing one assist and helping the Tigers post the second-best goals-against average in the league.
This marks the first time since 2022 that three Tigers have earned All-GSC recognition in the same season, highlighting West Alabama's balance on both sides of the pitch.
The Tigers now turn their focus to the postseason, as they prepare to host a Gulf South Conference Tournament Quarterfinal on Saturday, November 8th at the UWA Soccer Field, taking on the 5-seeded Delta State at 5:30 PM.
