LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The West Alabama men's tennis team is set to hit the road for a Gulf South Conference showdown against Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday, February 16, at 1 p.m.
The Tigers enter the match with a 2-2 record, while the Warhawks are still seeking their first victory at 0-2.
West Alabama has found success in both singles and doubles play so far this season.
Tomas Almeida (3-1) and
Vilislav Bonev (4-0) have been strong at the top of the lineup, while
Federico Iturbe (3-1) and
Eita Ishikawa (2-2) have contributed key wins in singles. The Tigers hold a solid 16-8 overall singles record and have been particularly dominant in doubles, boasting an 8-3 record. The pairing of Iturbe and
Jacob Tapia remains undefeated (3-0), and Ishikawa has found success with multiple partners, including
Tomas Almeida (2-0) and Bonev (1-0).
On the other side, Auburn-Montgomery has struggled early in the season, posting 3-9 singles record and a 2-4 mark in doubles play. Raphael Pertusier (2-0) has been a bright spot in singles for the Warhawks, while Giuseppe Bonaiuti (1-1) earned a win at the No. 1 position. The doubles pairing of Bonaiuti and Jami Savolainen has provided one of AUM's two victories.
West Alabama will look to capitalize on its early-season form and depth across the lineup to secure a road victory. The doubles point could play a crucial role, with the Tigers holding a distinct advantage in that category. A win against AUM would give UWA a strong start in conference play as they continue their season.
First serve is set for 1 p.m. in Montgomery, Alabama, as the Tigers aim to keep their momentum going.
