LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's and women's tennis teams return to the courts on Tuesday, March 25, as they host Columbus State at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
The UWA women's team (8-3, 3-0 GSC) enters the matchup riding strong performances in both singles and doubles play.
Alexa Milliam has been a standout in singles, boasting an 8-0 record, while
Shaira Rivera leads the team with a 9-1 mark, primarily at the No. 1 spot. In doubles, Rivera and
Valentina Mutilba have formed a strong partnership, holding a 7-2 record at the No. 1 position.
On the men's side, the Tigers (5-7, 1-3 GSC) look to build momentum following recent solid doubles performances.
Federico Iturbe and
Jacob Tapia lead the way with an 8-3 record at No. 2 doubles, while
Afonso Portugal and
Tomas Almeida have posted a 5-3 mark at No. 1. In singles,
Tomas Almeida and
Vilislav Bonev have each secured six wins this season, with Bonev riding a one-match win streak.
The Columbus State men's team (7-7, 1-0 PBC) has shown strong performances in doubles, boasting a .750 winning percentage, with standout duos Camilo Cano/Samer Al Tori (9-2) and Andrea Sandrone/Elias Peter (8-1) leading the charge. In singles, Peter (8-3) and Sandrone (9-2) have been consistent performers, while Samer Al Tori and Cano have held their own in the top spots.
On the women's side, the Cougars (7-4, 1-0 PBC) aim to maintain their solid singles play, led by Sofia Lauretti (6-1) and Isadora Oliveira (6-3). In doubles, Mariana Ramirez and Nikoline Gullacksen (3-2) provide a reliable pairing, while multiple combinations have been tested throughout the season.
West Alabama will face a strong test against Columbus State, a program consistently ranked among the nation's best in Division II tennis. The Tigers will look to defend their home court and build on their 2025 campaign as the regular season progresses.
