Track and Field Set to Host Inaugural UWA Invitational

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - After a dominant showing at the Mississippi College Spring Classic, the University of West Alabama Track and Field Team is set to host the inaugural UWA invitational on Saturday, March 8 at 9:00 a.m.

With record-breaking performances and multiple top 10 finishes in their most recent meet, the Tigers look to continue their momentum in front of a home crowd.

Stand out Performances
West Alabama athletes put on a stellar display at Mississippi College, earning 21 top 10 placements across various events. Two school records were shattered, highlighting the team's growing strength this season thus far.  Dedric Hicks rewrote the record books in the Shot Put with a remarkable 15.11, while freshman Mercy Lomuria broke the school's 5000m record with a time of 17:39.34.
The Tigers also dominated the relay events, with the Women's 4x400m team of Augusta Arnold, Jamaya Dancy, Jordan Connor, and Erica Smith taking first place with a time of 4:09.74.
 
Women's Track & Field's Last Time Out:
  • Mikia Hutchings delivered a strong performance in the sprints, finishing fourth in the 100m (12.86) and 10th in the 200m (26.88).
  • Gabriel Stephens secured a ninth-place finish in the 200m (26.88).
  • Augusta Arnold and Jordan Connor were impressive in the 800m, placing third (2:17.34) and fourth (2:27.43).
  • Mercy Lomuria had an outstanding day, finishing second in both the 1500m (4:51.39) and 5000m (17:39.34), breaking the school record in the latter event.
 Men's Track & Field's Last Time Out:
  • Lawrence Walker and Antonio Young excelled in the 100m, finishing second (10.97) and eighth (11.14).  Walker also placed fourth in the 200m (22.22).
  • Jamarion Walker put up a strong performance in the 400m securing fourth place with a time of 50.03.
  • Michael Harris finished ninth in the 400m (51.25).
  • Jentzen Moore and Jonathan Phillips placed in the top-10 in the 1500m, finishing sixth (4:11.33) and 10th (4:19.04).
  • Sha'Kenye Darden ran a solid 800m race, placing seventh with a time of 1:56.76.
  • Dedric Hicks made history with a record-breaking 15:11m throw in the Shot Put.
Looking Ahead to the UWA Invitational
With a wealth of momentum behind them, the Tigers are eager to showcase their talent on home turf at the UWA invitational. This meet will provide an excellent opportunity for West Alabama athletes to continue their strong performances and build upon their already impressive season.
Fans and supporters are encouraged to come out and cheer on the team as they look to set more records and secure top finishes in what promises to be an exciting, competitive meet.

The UWA Invitational is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
