Box Score 2 ROME, Ga. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's Tennis teams both dropped 4-1 decisions to the North Georgia Nighthawks on Tuesday afternoon.
"Today was a frustrating day on both sides," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "The match was more competitive than what the final score showed, but we need to pick up our intensity. Everyone is tired at this point in the season, but it's about energy from the start."
MEN'S TENNIS
West Alabama picked up a win in the first doubles match of the afternoon, with Eita Ishikawa and Caden Goldammer winning 6-3 against No. 25 North Georgia's Marcos Castellanos and Franco Rebora. The Tigers went on to lose the doubles point as the Nighthawks picked up a pair of wins in the following two matches.
Afonso Portugal recorded his seventh win of the year in Line One singles as he defeated Pedro Liborio who was forced to retire due to an injury. Tomas Almeida, Vilislav Bonev, and Sebastian Vilas all fell in their respective matches, resulting in North Georgia's 4-1 win. Goldammer was in the midst of a three-set battle in Line six before his match was called early.
"Caden was the bright spot today," coach Beaman determined. "He hasn't had much playing time this season, but takes advantage of it when he gets it."
WOMEN'S TENNIS
UWA dropped the doubles point to begin the match as they went into singles action, trailing by one.
In Line Two, freshman sensation Alexa Milliam remained perfect as she defeated Ashley Moinard, (6-2, 6-3) to move to 12-0 on the season. Milliam picked up the lone win on the day for West Alabama as Valentina Mutilba, Emiri Takanishi, and Greta Zawels all fell in competitive play.
"We have a tough matchup against Valdosta State coming up on Thursday," coach Beaman continued. "We need to show up a lot better than what we did today."
West Alabama will be back in action on Thursday for a neutral site battle against the Valdosta State Blazers that will take place in Pensacola, Florida. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. CST.
