LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's cross country teams will return to competition this weekend at the Firehawk Invitational (Danville, Ala.).
The Tigers are coming off a strong showing at the Falcon Classic (Montevallo, Ala.), where both squads faced a highly competitive field. On the women's side, freshman Mercy Lomuria highlighted the effort with a third-place finish in the 5K, crossing the line in 18:27.61. She was followed by Miriam Dominguez-Tellez, who placed 18th with a time of 20:04.37, helping the Tigers secure a fifth-place team finish.
In the men's 8K, West Alabama placed two runners inside the top 10. Mathis Brenton paced the group with an eighth-place finish (25:56.10), while Gary Mata followed closely in 10th (25:25.36). Jentzen Moore, Lorenzo Pelusi, Sha'Kenye Darden, Jonathan Phillips, and Julian Council all finished in the top 25, securing a second place finish overall for the Tigers.
The Firehawk Invitational will also feature a conference rival, the University of West Florida. The Argonauts are coming off an impressive outing at their home meet, the Argonaut Invitational (Pensacola, Fla.). Carson King won the men's 8K with a time of 27:11.80, while freshman Elyse Carmichael captured the women's 5K title in 19:33.30 in her collegiate debut.
