LIVINGSTON, Ala. – No. 5 West Alabama Tigers baseball pitcher Baker Green has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Region Pitcher of the Week after a dominant outing against Valdosta State this past weekend.
The honor marks the first NCBWA regional weekly award of Green's career.
Green delivered one of the most impressive performances of the season in the Tigers' 4-0 victory over Valdosta State in game one of the series. The right-hander threw a complete game shutout, going all nine innings while allowing zero runs on eight hits. He also struck out two batters and did not issue a walk in the win.
The complete game shutout was the first nine-inning shutout by a West Alabama pitcher since Peyton Warren accomplished the feat on March 7, 2020, against Spring Hill Badgers baseball in a 4-0 victory.
Through six starts this season, Green has been a key piece of the Tigers' rotation. He owns a 2.67 ERA with a 3-0 record across 30.1 innings pitched. The junior has struck out 27 batters while limiting opponents to a .225 batting average and posting a 1.09 WHIP.
Green's performance has helped power West Alabama's strong start to the season, as the Tigers currently sit among the top teams nationally in pitching and overall record.
No. 5 West Alabama continues its season this week taking on Montevallo at Tartt Field, beginning on Friday, March 13 at 5 PM, as the Tigers look to build on their momentum in both regional and national play.
