LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Lamont Seward has been hired as associate head coach, passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at the University of West Alabama, according to an announcement today by Tiger head football coach Brett Gilliland.

Seward spent last season coaching running backs at Army. Prior to that, he coached with Gilliland as a member of Jeff Monken's staff at Georgia Southern, where he coached running backs and wide receivers.

"We are extremely pleased to have Lamont joining our Tiger Family. His experience is going to be a tremendous addition to our program," Gilliland said. "After working with him at Georgia Southern for three seasons, I know he is exactly what our student athletes need on the field and off."

"He and his wife, Bebe, will be great additions to the UWA and Livingston communities," Gilliland said. "It is an honor to add such a close friend, excellent coach, great mentor and relentless recruiter to our already excellent coaching staff."

Seward helped Georgia Southern to three consecutive Football Championship Series semifinal appearances before the Eagles moved to the Football Bowl series for the 2013 season. With him as running backs coach, Georgia Southern rushed for 3,964 yards in 2013.

Georgia Southern posted its second highest per-game rushing average (399.4) and ninth NCAA rushing title during his two seasons coaching running backs after working with wide receivers for two seasons. He helped develop Georgia Southern into one of the nation's most efficient passing offenses, ranking second in the nation in 2011.

Prior to coaching at Georgia Southern, Seward spent two seasons as the wide receiver coach at West Georgia, also working with kickoff and punt return units.
He coached at Western Carolina for two seasons, guiding Catamount receiver Eddie Cohen to WCU's single-season record with 1,208 receiving yards. At Western Carolina, Seward also coached the kickoff and punt return teams.

Seward began his coaching career as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Warren County High School before joining the Western Carolina staff.

As a player at Western Carolina, Seward was a member of the Southern Conference All-Decade Team (1997-2006), finishing his career third on the WCU and SoCon lists for receptions with 190. His 2,971 receiving yards is third all-time at WCU.

As a Catamount, Seward caught at least one pass in 39 consecutive games and had at least one reception in 43 of 45 games. He had 12 games with 100 receiving yards or more.

Seward earned his Bachelors Degree in sport management with a minor in marketing from Western Carolina in 2003.
